The flat mirror is ideal for situations where the ceiling is lower, unlike a warehouse or large retail establishment. These flush or swivel mount mirrors can be attached directly to the lower ceiling and used to monitor traffic flow or employee productivity.

Flat mirrors are different from domed mirrors because they reflect a smaller range of space. This is why this style of safety mirror is ideal for smaller settings like offices and smaller retail stores. The flat mirror comes in two different mounting styles for added versatility, the flush mount and the swivel mount.

Using Flush Mount Mirrors

Flush mount mirrors are typically used in place of ceiling tiles or mounted to the ceiling of a given space. These security mirrors can house cameras that are angled toward a specific spot or can be used to monitor the activity directly below the mirror. It is not uncommon for business offices to use flush mount mirrors over the desks of their employees to increase productivity even if there is no camera installed behind the unit.

The retail business can also utilize the flat mirror to increase security by giving the clerk a visible means of watching customers in the store from aisle to aisle. In this case, the flat mirrors would need to be installed above every aisle. If the flat mirrors will be installed outdoors, the materials need to be sturdy and weatherproof. Using indoor flat mirrors outdoors could mean frequent replacement and higher security costs.

Using Swivel Mount Mirrors

Schools, hospitals and businesses often use the swivel mount mirror where traffic flow needs to be monitored. The swivel mount security mirrors are flat mirrors attached to a moving arm. The arm is secured into the wall and the flat reflective piece can be moved to different angles based on the establishments needs.

Swivel mount mirrors are not often used in conjunction with security cameras because they are not installed flush to the wall or ceiling. The units are strictly used for reflecting an image that cannot be viewed without the aid of the mirror. For instance, a principal may choose to install a swivel mount mirror outside of the office reflecting the hallway to monitor the flow of traffic.
